English Language Proficiency Study

Vangtel recently conducted an English language assessment of bilingual applicants living in Hermosillo, Mexico. The evaluation successfully confirmed the advanced language proficiency and availability of skilled bilingual agents. The exercise also infused confidence in Vangtel’s recruitment process and client services.

Assessment Overview
Vangtel’s client in Arizona had a number of projects that involved outbound bilingual sales. They wanted evidence that Vangtel could fulfill their English language needs, and there was some ambiguity surrounding the true speaking proficiency of Hermosillo talent. To confirm language quality, Vangtel coordinated a live demonstration at the client’s headquarters in Nogales, Arizona.

Top prepare for this exercise, Vangtel recruited top applicants through targeted newspaper ads and various partnering universities. After receiving 65 resumes, Vangtel professionals narrowed the applicant pool and conducted pre-interviews with 46 applicants. Vangtel recommended 22 of the best prospects for preliminary phone interviews with the client. The client selected 11 of the best candidates for participation in the live demonstration at their office in Arizona. All applicants had a Visa, and the complete trip took 28 hours.

The day started very early with introductions and training at 6:30 am. The group held a series of phone interviews with key operations managers who were seeking to establish their contact center business in Mexico. Between these meetings, the group practiced making live sales calls with an acceptable closing rate.

Call monitoring was the last and most important activity of the day. Five exceptional agents, who did well during the morning exercises, were chosen for a live demo, while a third party listened and assessed their skills. After 45 minutes of evaluation, the new agents equaled or bettered those agents with professional training and months of experience.

Responses
After the language exercise, various client supervisors and managers expressed their approval and satisfaction with each of the 11 tested candidates.

One supervisor related, “To be honest, I was expecting totally different English skills. I’m impressed with their proficiency level…and embarrassed because these newbies closed as many sales as our established team.”

The site director said, “The interviews went extremely well. Your people speak better English than my people here in Nogales, Arizona.”

Conclusion
The client was convinced that these employees could undoubtedly provide exceptional bilingual work. Vangtel appreciated the opportunity to showcase a few of the many talented employees that Hermosillo offers.
